    Some Reds Team Stats

Hitting: OPS -- 1st in NL.
    OBP -- 2nd in NL.
Runs scored -- 6th in NL.

    Walks -- 1st in NL.
    Homers -- 1st in NL.
    BA -- 10th in NL.

You would think with such high totals in OPS, OBP, Homers and walks, team would be leading the league in runs.

Pitching: ERA -- tied with Pitt. and Ariz. for 9th-11th in NL. Not great but much better than last two years.

Walks allowed -- best in NL.
HRs allowed -- second most in NL.
    Ks -- tenth in NL.
Runs allowed -- 6th in NL (shows ERA misleading; lots of unearned runs allowed).

Numbers like OPS and OBP are averages so they take a while to fall. I think our runs scored have been stagnent lately and our offense is worse than it was. I think the OBP and OPS will fall soon.

EDIT: I think what I said is complete BS, but at the time it sounded good.

The question to me is why the Reds' high OBP and OPS are leading to relatively few runs. 6th in league in runs is too low for those averages. Could it be that a lot of walks and homers, with a low BA, is not the best combination? Do the Reds need more high BA type hitters?

Maybe we should hit better in the "clutch" or with RISP!

They need another Hatteberg.....even a Casey circa 1999, or 2004.

Contact hitter....who hits .320+, with doubles power and minimal K's.

They need 1 at the top (2nd/3rd) and 1 in the middle (5th/6th).

Maybe they go after someone like that to play RF in FA?
IF BC...is serious about opening up the pocketbook.

Move Freel to 2B and Phillips to SS.

    I like your thinking.
