Not only is New York Mets catcher Paul Lo Duca accused of cheating on his former Playboy model wife, he's also attracted the attention of team officials and Major League Baseball for massive gambling debts, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.
Sonia Lo Duca, 34, in June filed a divorce petition, in which she accused Lo Duca with infidelity.
"I talk to my wife every day," Lo Duca told the Daily News at Saratoga Race Track. "We get along great."
The Daily News said Lo Duca, a four-time All-Star, has built up heavy debts because of his love of betting on horse racing.
Major League Baseball's morals clause does not prohibit players from gambling at casinos or race tracks, but league officials do become worried when a player runs up unmanageable debts.
Lo Duca told the Daily News that he only plays the ponies, not on major sports.
About his estranged wife, he said, "We decided to get a divorce six months ago and I wish it didn't happen, but it happens."
Sonia Lo Duca posed for Playboy's Sexy Girl Next Door spread in 2001. She married Paul in 2000, before his first full season in the majors, in which he hit .320 for the Dodgers.
