    The Killers New Single

    Springsteen anyone?

Wow- not what I expected from these guys. It's like listening to early Boss in some parts.

I just listened to it. I think your Springsteen comparison is spot on.

I also think they are being heavily influenced by Coldplay on their instrumentals.

For some of you in the know... is there two, possibly three versions of the video for "Somebody Told Me". I can only find the one in the desert... wasn't there one shot with a dancer and the lead singer with heavy make-up? Thanks!

Like Springsteen, but with casiotone synthesizers.

The Killers still sound early New Wave (British) to me...

You are absolutely correct when it comes to songs like "Mr. Brightsides" and "Somebody Told Me." Some of their other stuff sounds totally different, imo.

There bands out there who are channeling not only the Boss....but.....

Hall and Oates.........The Killers' Brandon Flowers was quoted as saying...
"Rich Girl" is everything you would need to know about writing a hit song.

New up and coming groups like Midlake....Maplewood.....and The Feeling take you back to that era where groups like America, Bread or the Little River Band....made you yearn for punk rock.

Careful now, a LOT of musicians really like Little River Band.......probably none on this board but...

I have only heard the new Killers tune once, I need to hear it 2-3 more times before I make an opinion.

Saw them in concert at the Blue Note on West 8th St. about 8 or 9 years ago. They had the guitar player from the group Player with them: "Baby, come back...any kind of fool could see..."

    Cool Change
    Lonesome Loser
    Lady
    Happy Anniversary Baby

I was always partial to "Reminiscing."

Edited to add: I just saw noticed your user name. That's gotta be in relation to the band, right? About a year and a half or so ago, I was a huge fan of their song "Retrieval of You."

    "Now I'm DJ Minimart...because that's where I work."

"Everybody knows I ran afoul of fame...and you're to blame..."

    Re: The Killers New Single

So, here's my little Killers story.

A few years back, I was at the Southgate House to see a show. I believe the headliner that night was the Raveonettes. I'm not certain of that part, but I do know that The Killers were the opening act. This was before they had any radio play at all. Well, I heard them and thought they were the worst garbage I'd heard in a while. I really enjoy bands, like Kitty noted, that are able to channel a New Wave or post punk sound. In my opinion, The Killers are not one of those bands.

Anyway, I didn't like the band, but I really liked a t-shirt they were selling at the merch table. It had a nice brown color, with the name of the band in white on the front. The price was right at around $10 bucks, so I bought the shirt. Besides, I said to myself, "these guys have no talent. no one will know that the t-shirt is for a really crappy band". Well, as you all know....not too long after....these guys were on the radio all the time. I never heard the end of it from my friends. I have since stomped all over the shirt and burned it, and cursed at it repeatedly. Something along those lines anyway.

Sorry for the long winded story, but man..........I hate The Killers.
How do we know he's not Mel Torme?
