Your ideal reds lineup for this year right now

ie phillips has to stay at 2B

Mine would be the same as yesterdays, if you flip flop Dunn and Griffey:

    RF Freel
    1B Hatteberg
    LF Dunn
    3B Encarnacion
    CF Griffey
    SS Aurillia
    2B Phillips
    C Ross

In an ideal world I would have BP at SS and RA at 2B. Also I could live with Ross and BP switching spots in the order, putting BP's speed on the bases for a bunt.
    Go BLUE!!!

Put Freel in CF and Griff in RF and it's a good one.

Assuming we can't move Junior to RF and Phillips to SS, I agree.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

In a perfect world, Griffey moves to RF with Freel to CF, and Phillips to SS with Aurilia starting fulltime at 2B. But since such position changes are not likely to occur until the offseason, here is my lineup:

    Freel rf
    Hatteberg 1b
    Encarnacion 3b
    Dunn lf
    Griffey cf
    Aurilia ss
    Phillips 2b
    Ross c
    <pitcher>

Castro and Clayton provide defensive relief for Aurilia at SS. Castro is the primary defensive replacement at SS, but if Aurilia bats and reaches base in a situation that calls for a pinch-runner, then Clayton runs for him and remains in the game at SS.

Having Castro and Clayton is purely redundant. Cut Clayton, bring up Deno as the 5th OF/PR.

    Excellent suggestion!

I don't think opposing pitchers would not enjoy trying to wade through your proposed lineup. Best one I've seen all season!

I've added OBP to your batting order just for the record.

Ross's OBP is better than some of those ahead of him, but with 3 catchers playing almost on alternating days, the catcher at # 8 (instead of moving Ross up on his day to play) maintains stability to the lineup that should keep that form day after day.

    Freel - .386
    Hatteberg - .423
    Encarnacion - .391
    Dunn - .377
    Griffey - .298
    Aurilia - .334
    Phillips - .342
    Ross - .370

Ross as our 8 hitter? thats a pretty good line up.
honestly this past week has proved to me that no one is afraid of Ken Griffey JR any more. The other night (i forget which night) the phillies pitched to him late game with 1st base open and 2 out so they didnt have to face EE

That is the lineup I like too. Dunn has great numbers this year when batting 2nd. Batting 2nd Dunn has an OBP of .433, SLG of .627 and a BA of .333.

Re: Your ideal reds lineup for this year right now

    My ideal lineup?

    RF - Freel
    2B - Phillips
    CF - Griffey
    3B - Encarnacion
    LF - Dunn
    SS - Aurilia
    1B - Hatteberg
    C - Ross

I like Phillips' speed and ability to bunt in the 2 hole. I also like the bottom order of Aurilia and Hateberg at the bottom of the lineup. To this warped old mind, this is better balanced. I leave Griffey in the 3 hole because it appears he's coming around and Freel at leadoff because there is no other choice.

BTW, tomorrow's lineup will likely be without Junior because his mother is undergoing cancer surgery. Looks like tomorrow will be:

    CF - Freel
    LF - Dunn
    1B - Aurilia
    3B - Encarnacion
    2B - Phillips
    RF - Hollandsworth
    C - Larue
    SS - Castro

    Or something like that.
