Reds pitching - a bit of a mess?

I spent some time pondering the current state of Reds pitching.

    Starters
Harang - solid and should continue to be
Arroyo - struggled for the last few months, teams seemed to have figured him out.
Lohse/Milton - don't you hold your breath every time they take the mound?
    5th starter - MIA

    Relievers
Guardado - arm seems to be held together with wire and rubber bands
Cormier - should never pitch to a decent RHB in a leverage situation
    Shack - ditto
Weathers/Coffey - better of late but they don't miss many bats
Franklin - Phillies kept Rick White instead of him but has been decent
Michalak - seems like Keisler deja vu

Which brings me to who will start Saturday against an agressive almost entirely RHB Pirate team.
    EZ - not an option
Michalak - with his slightly elevated gopher ball rate and his not bat missing tendencies and being LH does not make for a good matchup with the Rats.
Franklin - been a starter throughout his career but has been pitching 1-2 innings in relief this year. Seems like the arm strength is unlikely to be there. Do you really want to send out a guy unlikely to pitch more than 4-5 innings at this point in the season?

That is really the list at the moment with one exception.

Could Saturday be the debut for Homer Bailey? It would be with an extra day of rest but the Reds could pick a better team to pitch him against than the Pirates.

I have no idea if this might happen but for some reason I just have this hunch I can't seem to shake. Homer would seem to be the best option and wouldn't it be fun.

    Food for thought anyway.

Michalak may get a start or 2, but IMO it's a matter of when not if he fails. Right now we are running out of bullets to call up. Germano is gone, EZ probably isn't an option for the rest of the season, Gosling isn't anything special, Dumatrait is alittle better but I wouldn't rely on him. You could give Franklin a try in the rotation, but it is starting to get to a point where you have to seriously think about bringing Homer up.

leverage situation-new buzzword that pretty much eliminates all situations but mopup

and Cormier has shown a tendency to be a reverse lefty
    Can't win with 'em

that is just over this season. I am guessing a large part of that was Philly has used him more as a situational lefty and has not let him face quality RHBs this season. His usage pattern in Philly changed this season.

This is simply taking the negative side (cup half empty) to every pitcher we have.

Unfortunately, it's a pretty accurate assessment.

The positive side is that there are no really good teams in this league.
