    Janish= SS of Future?

He has always been praised for his work with the glove, but he is having quite a season at the plate this season. He has played 76 of his 102 games in the pitcher friendly Florida State League, and has still managed to hit a combined .303 13 HR 62 RBI. Not to bad at all for a league that ripped Joey Votto up last year.

Doing well in A ball at age 23 just isn't a big deal.

Great arm, Great glove, great attitude. Fantastic baseball awarness.

Couldn't hit a baseball off the broad side of the barn. Has more holes in his swing than a soccer net.

Coulda/shoulda been made a pitcher. It might not be too late.

It seems to be a big deal when the conversation is about Zach Ward.

age/level is a great predictor for hitters, less so for pitchers. Interestingly, catchers seem to be bimodal. That 33YO Philly rookie hurt us, hurt the Mets.

not for me, I pointed out that a 22 year old is SUPPOSED to dominate in Low A.

The loss of Ward did not bother me. I am one of the few that liked the Lohse trade when it went down.

I deals I didn't like were "the trade" and the Cormier deal.

Janish has hit better than expected. Litmus test is next year in AA. If his glove is as good as they say, I give him an outside chance still.

What they really need to do is sign that Cuban SS Gourriel.

Janish had a single, two doubles, and a triple in Sarasota's 12-inning loss last night. He's been up and down, but on the whole has done a pretty good job in the S-Reds' #2 slot. I'd say he's at least earned a ticket up the ladder for 2007. That will be the year when we find out where on the radar screen he really is. Could be a big-league starter, could be another Ray Olmedo. Likely somewhere in between.

I always thought his ceiling was Adam Everett with a tad more pop.

Ray Olmedo and Willy Bergolla say hi.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

I thought Janish is considered to have a better glove than both of those guys. Maybe not.

Janish plays MLB caliber defense now. Give him until age 25 before kicking dirt on him. AA next year (age 24) and then we will see if he can make the leap.

I didn't mean you personally. I meant in general a big deal was made about Ward's stats. I wondered if the Reds kept him at that level to raise his trade value.

That's a fair assessment. I wasn't aware of the breakout. Still, it seems odd to me that Ward has been "lights out" at low-A, and has yet to earn a promotion.

we hear that about a lot of guys, then they come up and the managers bench them because of their defense.

I think that it's just a euphemism for poor hitting
