From the headlines of that day's paper you would have thought it was the Second Coming of Jesus Christ or the return of McArthur to the Phillipines! I can't find an image thought. Dang!

I was 8 and I was there. My father and I had been in St. Louis watching the Reds and Cardinals and were headed home to Jackson, MS. At some point during the drive, we heard the announcement on the radio and Dad says "we have to go see that, son." So we did. I think that's where I caught "the bug."

One thing that sticks out to me about that night was the tee shirts they had made up that said "Pete's Back!". Cubs' coach Don Zimmer even wore one.

That night began to heal the wound of his leaving a few years earlier, but the back of his baseball card should have never listed any teams except for the Reds. Same for Tony Perez.

Help stamp out, eliminate, and do away with redundancy.

Single and a two base error by Bob Dernier. And a monster head-first slide into third base in his first at bat. Just thinking about it makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

If there had been a Redszone, it most certainly would've crashed that day.

What would have happened when Esasky rode the pine so Pete could play 2 years later?

I remember watching it on TV. There was electricity in the air that I had never seen or seeen since. The crowd was wild! When Rose tripled or a single and a two base error, the stadium just exploded. It was something I'll never forget. The exiled emperor returning home!

What time does the pregame start? I heard Seg and Cunningham and I don't want to listen to Cunningham.

I was so glad they were playing the Cubs that game so I could go over to my grandparents and watch it since my family didn't have cable.

Words cannot express the suckitude of Cincinnati baseball circa 1982-1984. Like a mastadon in the La Brear tarpits, it seemed like the Reds would never get out of their mire.

When Rose came back, it was like a last second reprieve from the governor. All would be well again. Rose was lucky in that his arrival coincided with Eric Davis, Paul O'Neill, Kal Daniels, Larkin, Browning, etc.

    I still marvel at Mario Soto's 18-7 record on a 70-92 1984 team.

Pay attention to the open sky
