Does Dave Parker count, since he was a FA? Smiley as a FA would also be up there.

I'm having a hard time even remembering guys we got from the Pirates. I think Belinda was a FA too.
Thank you Walt and Bob for going for it in 2010-2014!

    My icon...Bob Purkey.

    1958 17-11
    1959 13-18
    1960 17-11
    1961 16-12
    1962 23-5
    1963 6-10
    1964 11-9

    Total 103-76 (.575)

There once was a young man named Purkey,
Who's major league future was murkey
On Thanksgiving Day, they'll trade him away,
For two infield vets and a turkey.

Purkey proved to be better than that. A knuckleballer who averaged almost 15 wins a season and that with the 63 and 64 season suffering from arm troubles. He also carried a 3.79 career ERA. Purkey is the forgotten on when it comes to great Reds pitchers because he was so mild mannered.

    I like the Purkey pick.

Worst - Frank Thomas (tanked in Cincy then found his game again)

Semi Best- Jerry Lynch (FA Pickup)

The Pirates and Reds didn't trade much when the Dreyfuss family was running things, due to a feud that the two clubs had involving Gary Hermann's role in deciding that George Sisler was Browns property, not Pirates property.

Good call on Hatcher. It's hard to think of him as a Pirate.

Good trade by the Reds: April 3, 1990: Traded by the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Cincinnati Reds for Mike Roesler and Jeff Richardson.

Mike Roesler was so good that he made people forget Dan Dumoulin

If free agents count, then I say Dave Parker.

However, if the acquisition must be via trade, then I say Bob Purkey or Billy Hatcher.

Did Parker give the Reds a World's championship like Hatcher all most by himself did going 7 for 7 to start things? I don't think so!

Well the title of the thread is best player we ever got from the Pirates, so I would have to go with Hatcher. Dude was just pure hustle and scrappiness.

Yeah, Jose Rijo's pitching, Eric Davis's HR in Game 1, and Chris Sabo's two HRs in Game 3 had nothing to do with the Reds World Series victory.

Don't get me wrong, Hatcher was very important in the Series, and he was a good player, but the best ex-Pirate to play for the Reds was Dave Parker.

Of course, that leaves the question as to whether we're talking by trade or someone who was a former Pirate. I've always assumed these questions were via trade.

Of course, Dave Parker was so good for us in a time when the Reds teams weren't that great. It was fun having Dave Parker on the Reds. Sort of like having Tom Seaver! Is Parker in the Reds hall yet?
