Mets fans get ready to face the Reds in the playoffs

    From Baseball Crank:

...if the season ended today, the Mets would face the Reds in the NLDS, with the Cardinals facing the Dodgers. If Pedro but not Glavine is available, the matchups would be something like this:

Game 1: Pedro vs. Bronson Arroyo. Significant advantage: Mets.

Game 2: El Duque vs. Aaron Harang. Harang's been better two years running, but I'd feel OK about this matchup given the Mets' offense. Glavine vs. Harang would be much better.

Game 3: Trachsel vs. Eric Milton. Tie on your hittin' shoes, boys, this is gonna be a long night. Advantage Mets solely on the basis of their offense.

Game 4: Maine vs. ... Elizardo Ramirez? Kyle Lohse? Anyway, someone I would trust significantly less than John Maine.

    Game 5: Pedro/Arroyo again.

Reds have been much better against LHP. Not having Glavine probably wouldn't hurt them at all in a series against the Reds.

Reds would smash them in game 2 and 3. Kyle Lohse pitches another gem and they win game 4.

If I were the Mets, I'd seriously worry about getting through the regular season before playing pitching match-ups.

I'm waiting for Seinfeld to get called up to the big leagues.

I think we'd probably see Harang go before Arroyo.

that all depends on how the season winds down. Only teams that wrap up theie playoff spot before the last few days have the luxury of setting up their pitching just how they want.

Sounds like a big time homer post. I remember a game last year when the Reds beat a Pedro starting Mets team, though Wagner is a better pitcher than Looper was.

Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
    Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
    Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13
    University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
    Cincinnati Bengals - None
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

Thats because they dont seem to follow anything about the Reds. If they followed baseball past Shea stadium they should know Harang is our #1.

No offense to Bronson, but ESPN basucally annointed him the Reds #1 without notifying the Reds.

Re: Mets fans get ready to face the Reds in the playoffs

    Mets: 5.22 R/G
    Reds: 4.97 R/G

So basically, over a 5 game series, one would expect the Mets by a grand total of 1 run. Wow, they really have a great offensive advantage there...

Short series' are all about pitching. Always have been. Always will be. They have the advantage in Game 1. We have the advantage in Game 2. Games 3 & 4 are a total tossup. You can't convince that me Traschel (4.79 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, 66 SO, 60 BB) is any better than Milton or that Maine is any better than Lohse. In fact, I might pitch Milton in game 2 so that he can pitch in Shea.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Billy Wagner gives them a nice advantage in every game.

Harang is our #1 starter, well ahead of Arroyo.

I don't know much about Maine, but both Milton and Lohse are far more likely than Traschel to give you a big game.
