    8/23 Minor League updates

Louisville is tied at 4 in the 9th inning. Jesse Gutierrez went 3-3 with 2 walks and an RBI.

Chattanooga leads 1-0 in the 7th. Noochie Varner has a sac fly to score a Joey Votto who walked, stole second, then took third on the throw that went to CF. Homer Bailey went 5 innings, allowed 4 hits, 3 walks and struck out 4.

Sarasota is losing 5-3 in the 8th. It was a bullpen day and Brandon Camardese got roughed up in 2.2 innings and allowed 4 runs.

Dayton and Billings both have the night off.

    5I 3H 0R 3W 4K's.

Bailey's walks have really flown up recently, a sign of fatigue. I think he should be shutdown. He now has thrown 133I's, which is about 30 more than last year.

Obviously I don't know because I don't see the games, but the BB's could be from him trying to K too many batters. I'm sure he's aware of the hype he's receiving this year and he could be trying to somehow even more justify his reputation (not that he needs that because his #'s speak for him just fine).

    BTW,

Homer moves to 6-0, with a 1.16 era in Chattanooga

Fatigue only becomes a problem if it leads to mechanical breakdowns. They should be watching his every movement with 3 sets of eyes and then going over game tape afterwards to make sure he isn't losing his form and heightening his chances for injuries.

I have no problem with them letting Bailey pitch in the AA playoffs, but they should be on him like a hawk for any sign of trouble.

Either fatigue, or he's being told to throw more offspeed stuff which he doesn't control as well. Without being at the games and charting pitches it's hard to know which.

I think thats a very valid option as well. He's been given a mandate to use his offspeed and breaking stuff and he's kind of learning how to throw them.

Ladies and gentlemen, barring any major setbacks, we have our ace of the future.

The future may be sooner than we think.
