    Here you go.

Reds get a taste of first place

Ryan Freel sounded pumped on the phone the other day. The Reds' veteran is playing in his first pennant race, just as a lot of his teammates are. The idea of playing games in October seems like a possibility, for the first time in his major league career.
"I'd like to tell you that you play just as hard all the time, because it's such a privilege to put on a major league uniform," Freel said, "but this is different." You come to the park with more focus, more energy, more purpose, he explained.

Freel is renowned for his effort, for going all-out, regardless of the score. That was him flying across the outfield the other night with the Reds leading by about two touchdowns, diving in pursuit of a long fly ball. But his intensity hasn't stood out quite so much on the Reds this year, because in 2006, the whole organization has been focused on winning this year, from a front office that has been devoted to making the necessary adjustments to the players.
"This is really a lot of fun," Freel said. And that was before the Reds moved into a first-place tie in the NL Central, winning the first game of a series in San Francisco. Homer Bailey is an intriguing option for the Reds, but a promotion doesn't sound like a real possibility, as much as the manager likes to muse about it.

There is talk of a possible radio booth match of the Brennamans, Marty and Thom
