    Minor trade w/Red Sox

The Reds sent Mike Burns to Boston for RHP Tim Bausher, who was assigned to Louisville. He's 4-3, 4.91 in 2 starts and 35 relief appearances this year. Here's his past numbers:

Krivsky does seem to like these guys that can't strike anyone out. A 35/29 BB/K ratio. OUCH!

I dont know why you would trade for a AAA pitcher that is worse than the AAA pitcher you are giving up.

Bausher has a nice 1.73 whip.

IIRC, they'd already DFA'ed him... by doing this, they got someone with a pulse in return for his loss.

Burns had cleared waivers and had been outrighted to Louisville and was pitching for them.

Miss a day, miss a lot. Miss three days and Mike Burns clears waivers.

Because, there's something missing, the part where, "Mike Burns to Boston for RHP Tim Bausher" should have been followed by the words, "and cash".

No biggie to me. Being DFAed after staying in Louisville while the bullpen hordes descended on Cincinnati, the writing was on the wall, and I wouldn't be surprised if Burns requested a trade. He's a journeyman, it's not uncommon for a GM to accommodate such a request for a guy who's not on his radar.

Bausher's stat line, compared to his career to date, screams "sore arm." Well, as long as we're not counting on him. Just a flyer on a formerly live arm for a guy that was probably going to be released eventually.

Bausher had worked exclusively out of the pen until mid-August. His last two appearances were his only two starts of the season. In those two starts he worked a total of 9 inning giving up 4 earned runs on 9 hits. He walked none and struck out 9. Is it possible that he is gonna be our next #5 starter?

The real question isn't why we would get a guy like Bausher. The real question is why would any other major league team get Mike Burns?

At least Bausher can throw hard, he can dial it up to the mid to high 90s.

Red sox called Burns up today. They'll probably turn him into a lights out set-up guy. (Kidding!)

Bausher got pasted in his first outing for Louisville, although it was already 7-0 when he came in. Three earned on six hits in two and two-thirds.

Heck, that has Cincinnati Red's #5 starter written all over it. Meanwhile back at the Chattanooga ranch, HB languishes.

I heard the Reds got cash in the deal, too. Can anyone confirm this?
