Google told me he was the Reds' 3rd round draft in '66, but that's it.

    lucubration \loo-kyoo-BRAY-shun; loo-kuh-\, noun:
    1. The act of studying by candlelight; nocturnal study; meditation.
    2. That which is composed by night; that which is produced by meditation in retirement; hence (loosely) any literary composition.

Since I'm not FCB, I had to look that one up.

Well, 3 games started and 6 IP at Class A Wythville in 1967 gave him a 16.50 ERA.

So, I guess the answer to the question is...Mike Oates was .....nobody.

In my 1967 edition of Street and Smith magazine, in the rookies to watch section, Dave bristol was quoted as saying that Oates reminded him of Jim Maloney, very good prognostication

I've been to Wytheville. There was baseball there? There are a ton of motor hotels as the halfway point to Disney World.
Some people play baseball. Baseball plays Jay Bruce.

I can see redsupport in a cave in the desert, sitting on a wooden chair, typing, half-dressed, by candlelight.

woy, I see more as a St. Thomas Aquinas type.

Jorge Rubio was always one of my favorites, I am amazed there are not more hagiographric depictions of the great Rubio.
