Reds acquire Sun Woo Kim from Rockies

    Per Marc's blog--

    Too late to deal? Bah!

The Reds have acquired right-hander Sun-Woo Kim and cash from the Rockies for "future considerations." He takes the 40-man spot of Michael Gosling, who was designated for assignment.

Mr. Kim will wear uniform No. 64 (I think Rick Stowe's running out) when he joins the team. Not sure yet what they plan to do with him. He made six relief appearances for the Rockies this year, but all of his Class AAA outings (17 of 'em) were starts. Could he be tomorrow night's mystery starter?

Sunny likely will be the 28th man to take the mound for the Reds this season. The team could yet best the legendary 30-man effort of 2003.

I am no longer amused. I would as soon concede the season. The Phillies did that and somehow got back into it.

For a PTBNL, this deal doesn't bother me.

Of course, it does further illustrate the silliness of overpaying for relief help prior to the July trade deadline...

Kim pitched pretty well in a dozen appearances last year with Colorado- 5-1, 4.28 I think.

Sun-san has gotten his butt handed to him this year, though.

Why is this a ridiculous acquisition? I see it as a no lose (of course, depending on who the PTBNL is). We have him for the remainder of this season, and he's still under the Reds control, albeit arbitration eligible. He lost in arbitration last year and has not been stellar this year. I think he's signable and then we take a look at him during spring training. Stocking up.

Nothing could be more ridiculous than Michalak making another start.
