Ode to 2006

This came to me while driving home today. I don't really know why. I thought I would post it in fun and to show what a terrible nerd I am. It kind of describes the season. Enjoy (or not, I don't care really).

They say we're the great pretenders
pretending that nothing is wrong
but our "D" has no range
and our line-ups are strange
and our pitchers are left in too long
our pitchers are left in too long.

They say we're the great pretenders
prentending that we're in the race
but our line-up is old
our best hitters are cold
and our bullpen is just a disgrace
our bullpen is just a disgrace.

pretending for the wild card
our acquisitions are sore
and now we can't score
we need some more guys who go yard
we need some more guys who go yard

just trying to hang on till the end
though we rooted our best
they blew it out west

Great ode. Really sums up my feelings about this year so far, too.

Actually, I'm not sure we really need "some more guys who go yard". I think we still have plenty of those... Perhaps you could replace that line with "Say goodbye to that sweet wild card, say goodbye to that sweet wild card."

And then, maybe add another stanza that goes something like this:

Our man Wayne is a great pretender
He got Bronson and Hatte and Phillips!
Then he dealt Kearns for pitching
And now he keeps itching
To pick up more middle relievers
To pick up more middle relievers
