    Cards losing again

I am telling you folks the Cards have big issues, esp with no izzy. We can still catch these guys if we can just take care of winning. The division may be easier to get than the WC. We moved back in front of Houston today, beat the Pades next week and who knows.

If we can own the Cubs for the seven games we have yet to play them and go .500 against the rest, then just about anythings possible!!!

Bottom line I like the remaining schedule we have compared to the Cards!!

This is the Reds' last stand right here against San Diego. If they cough up a hairball at home against the Pads' judy offense, they ought to go soak their heads.

They should pretend each game is an elimination game against them.

Cards lost 9-7. Reds move to 4.5 games back of the Cards.

I agree that the Pads offense is nothing impressive. However, the REDS (non-impressive?) offense needs to score more than 1-run in a game to expect a positive result... only 1R in two of the three games at SD last week. UGH!

The Pads' pitching is very tough; I don't expect the offense to go nuts on their pitching, and Jerry should manage his pitching staff accordingly. Which means a very short leash for struggling starters.

Watching SF vs SD now. I find myself rooting for a big game from Mr. Bonds. Ain't life strange?

Yep. The REDS did get 2 QS in that 3-gamer at SD. Defense played a huge role in runs by the SD offense as well. Four errors in the series that led to 3 unearned runs (11 runs total for SD). Something that we have gotten used to this year, but do not need against a weak-hitting/strong-pitching team like SD.

I feel more confident in winning the division than the wild card. The Cards are looking weak this late in the season, and if we can win every series from here on out, I think we've got a shot.

Of course if we make it to the playoffs, we're toast against the Mets, but just making it would mean a lot.

The Cards have problems, none of which have to do with losing Isringhausen.

He has been terrible much of the year, an example of how manager insistence on having a "closer" can be detrimental to a team.

I'll take my shot with the WC. A sweep of the Fathers and we're half a game out, assuming Philly and FLA don't sweep as well.

    Re: Cards losing again

It might actually be tougher to get the wild card at this point; the Reds are 4 1/2 behind the Cards, and only 3 1/2 behind the wild card, but with four other teams in front of the Reds. Usually at least half of them are winning, the other half losing- makes it tough to make up ground on all of them.

Sure wish we were playing the Cardinals here at the end of the year...

The Cards are the the the fighter trying to hang on in the 15th round. Just stagerring, clutching and avoiding the other fighter. If the Reds had five or six games left with the Cards I would give them a good chance. But they don't and it will be a monumental effort by the Reds to get either playof spot. Need to win something like 15 of 19. Just too big a hill to climb.

Thing is, a short Reds winning streak combined with a short Cardinals losing streak and it is close and a battle to the finish. Leads can slip away fast.
