    Justin Speier

This is a guy the Reds should really target for bullpen help. Pending free agent, will be 33 next season. Should be relatively cheap.

What is the $$ range for him? and why the decrease in IP? Injury/performance related??

While we're discussing additions to the pen, who is a lock to return for us next year? Coffey, Bray, Majewski? Anyone else?

I think Speier would be a great add.

Unfortunately, Cormier is a lock to return as well.

I'd like to bring Weathers back. Schoweisis might be worth bringing back as well, but since he made 3 million this season, it's a tough call.

Speier is a RH pitcher, and we desparately need to add a quality RH reliever.
He made 2.25 million last year. I agree, he's definitely worth a look at.
Thank you Walt and Bob for going for it in 2010-2014!

He missed most of August with a forearm strain. I don't think that's the kind of injury that lingers.

As Redread noted, he made only $2.25 million this season. Cormier makes just about that same amount, and I'd much rather have Speier. Maybe 3 years, $9 million?

Just thought I would point out the obvious, his numbers have steadily improved but he was looking at 10 or so fewer appearences, which peeked my arm issue concern

Not bad. Couldn't hurt to go for him.

I think our bullpen looks like this next season:

    Lohse
    Claussen
    Coffey
    Bray
    Majewski
    Cormier
    Schoeneweis

Houston's Trever Miller, Dave Wheeler, and Dave Borkowski would bring a smile to my face, personally. Speier, too.
I hope it's never sunny in Philly again.

    Lohse isn't in the rotation?

subtract Lohse, and I'm ok with the other 6 honestly. The only problem with those 6 is that we need to add that #7, who will be a closer. Who will close for the Reds in 2007?

I don't think Lohse will be signed at his salary to be in the pen. Although maybe he'll be tried as a starter and then thrown in the pen later in the year.

I think there will be some turn over. The pen is obviously a borderline fetish with Wayne , so I expect 2-3 new faces to be added this winter.

The good news (I guess) is that the pen is so bad that it should be relatively easy to incrementally improve it.
