    Way before my time.

But they did play together in 1964 and 1965. And I just found this: Joe Morgan's familiar habit of flapping his arm while at bat was a timing mechanism that was suggested to him by teammate and future Hall of Fame second baseman Nellie Fox.

I didn't know that. Sounds like he was Morgan's mentor, and he did a damn fine job of it.

Dang, I'm getting old. I forgot you were just a pup.

Nice digging though - I knew it was something.

Joe developed the habit of the shoulder flap to correct a bad habit he had earlier in his playing days of dropping that back shoulder. It was a mental reminder, that developed into a habit, of keeping that shoulder up. I heard that from Joe many, many years ago when asked.

"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."
