I'd rather pay Matthews $2.5M than $12M to Hunter or Griffey for that matter.

Damon didn't play his entire career on astroturf.

There's a significant attrition rate there.

Ask Ken Griffey JR. about that.

As for Matthews, I'd postion that they simply don't need him.

I'd rather pay Deno 330K and take my chances.

For a one year deal in this marketplace, it isn't IMO.

The supply of good CF seems very low now.

EDIT: for the Twins, I think it's a good deal.

For the Reds, it's harder to say, as we have plenty of holes to fill. I know Jr is a weak glove in CF, but he's close to adequate. There's other holes on this club that are downright putrid that I'd spend that 12 million on first.

Thank you Walt and Bob for going for it in 2010-2014!

Either stick with Deno or possibly get Aaron Rowand. Hes not a great hitter but he plays hard and brings alot of energy to a team.

This Twins will likely try to work out a 3 year contract with Torii so they don't have to pay him 12M this season.

Something like 3 yr 27 million is likely 8/9/10 or something along those lines. Torii knows if he has a bad season this year he won't get 3 yr 27 mil on the open market. He also has expressed his desire to play in Minnesota.

Probably but I suspect the Twins looked at the situation and realized
    1) There is no internal replacement
    2) with $12M for one year they couldn't get as good as an external replacement
    3) In the generally inflated free agent market you get a much lower return on your dollar
    Correct
    Correct
    Very Correct
