Anyways, I have quite a few problems with the list, mainly that Matt Garza is ahead of Homer Bailey, and in the top 10 for that matter, but overall I think the list is pretty good. Anyways, I figured with just the AFL and little notes here and there we could all discuss this for a while.

Drew Stubbs makes the list? Hmmmmmmmmm........
Hugs, smiling, and interactive Twitter accounts, don't mean winning baseball. Until this community understands that we are cursed to relive the madness.

Re: Top 100 Prospects list from topprospectalert.com

Ive known JP for a while and talked to him after he made their list for the Reds top 5 prospects (Bailey, Bruce, Votto, Stubbs, Cueto on his list). He is really high on tools and projectability. He kind of thinks along the lines of BA with the love for tools and projection, and dont be surprised if Stubbs is around the same place on BA's list.

One of my favorite prospects, the Rockies Ubaldo Jimenez drops to #90 on this list. He's been pretty steady around the top 25 on most everyone's list. I wonder why? He struggled in AAA after a late season promotion, but he's still young for that league and had a very nice season in AA this year.

He pitched on the last day of the season for the Rockies and went 6 2/3 IP, giving up 3 H, 3 ER, 3BB, and 3K vs the Cubs.

Garza being ahead of him doesn't bother me too much. He had an outstanding year. I think he, Hughes and Bailey are probably 3a, 3b and 3c.

edabbs, he had a great year no doubt, but I think you and JP are the only ones that think Garza is on the same level as Bailey and Hughes.

    1) He is one spot ahead of Bailey...it's not like Garza is #4 and Homer is #27.

    2) Garza is 3 years older and pitched well in AAA. At this point, there is less risk with Garza, since Bailey has only hit AA and is still only 20. Garza is a little more projectible at this point.

So at this point, Garza might be a little better (i.e., safer) of a prospect b/c of this. But Homer has more upside b/c of youth. That's my position and I am sticking with it.

I understand where you are coming from edabbs, but you two are the only people I have seen that think so highly of Garza.

    Alan Mathews from BA:

    Q: Jason from L.A. asks:
Hey thanks for the chat. Just curious, whats the over under on Pro-Yankee questions? Anyways, my real question is Does Matt Garza profile more as a starter or reliever?

A: Alan Matthews: I get tons of Red Sox and Yankees questions. Sorry I can't answer them all. They're usually pretty good questions. Garza is a front-of-the-rotation starter. He has good stuff, outstanding feel for pitching and all the intangiles. It was a tough call to rank Hughes over Garza.

Stubbs @ 88? I'd say Cueto, Wood and probably a couple of others in the Reds system are better prospects than Stubbs. I'm not even sure that Stubbs ends up being the best OF the Reds drafted this year (Dorn).

I would also put Cueto and Wood ahead of Stubbs, and did when i did my Reds top 40 Prospects. However, I see Stubbs making a top 100 list based on his defense, plate discipline and defense. Add that in with his potential and its understandable.

I didn't think plate-discipline was considered a strong suit for Stubbs.

Stubbs takes walks at a very good rate. His strikezone judgement isnt a problem, its making contact when he recognizes the pitch as a strike....kind of like Adam Dunn. Dunn strikes out a ton, but walks a ton. Drew Stubbs hit .252 this season, but he got on base at a .368 clip. That is a difference of .116, where lets take for example Javon Moran, who hit .328 this year, but had an on base percentage of .363. While Moran hit 76 points higher than Drew Stubbs, Drew Stubbs actually got on base at a higher percentage than Javon Moran did.
