    Best hitting pitcher

Who is the best hitting/most powerfull hitting pitcher you've seen live?

On the Cubs last trip to GABP in 2006 I saw Carlos Zambrano hit a homer to the base of the "power stacks" and it was a total rocket. He's a big fella to begin with but it was a 100% shot.

So of the various pitchers you've seen live who are the ones that stand out either as "power hitters" or, at least, very good hitters.

I always thought of Rick Wise, I guess because he threw a no-no and hit two dingers in the same game.

However, I checked his numbers and they aren't that great.

Kinda like Dontrelle Willis, I guess.

    Zambrano
    C.C. Sabbathia
    Rick Ankiel
    Mike Hampton
    1993 Orel Hershisher (.356 BA)

I didn't see him personally (obviously), but there was a pitcher for the Red Sox, George Ruth. I hear he was a pretty good hitter.

Don Gullet was a fine hitting pitcher. Babe Ruth was so good he was made an everday player.

I remember Danny Graves Launching a ball deep into the night against the Astros in one of his few at bats, but I dont know what his career stats were.

Milton isn't the worst of hitters.

    Re: Best hitting pitcher

I remember watching Mike Hampton hit when I wasn't really paying attention (didn't realize he was up) and I had no idea it was a pitcher at the plate. He ended up stroking a solid single to the opposite field.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Come on, no one has mentioned Arroyo? 2 at bats 2 HRs, 2 RBIs, 1.000 BA, 2.000 SLG. That is pretty impressive. And his 4-4 4 RBIs in Houston.

    Re: Best hitting pitcher

Maddux, Smoltz and Glavine have all been pretty good hitters. Nuxie was pretty fair witht he stick. Catfish Hunter, Steve Carlton and Rick Reuschel were good too. Wasn't Fergie Jenkins supposed to be a good hitter?
