What is the strangest in-game player move or decision made by a manager that you've ever witnessed?
Whether it worked out, or totally blew up, what is the weirdest in game move made?

Grady Little...
When all is said and done more is said than done.
Bob Boone doing the manegerial two step with Juan Castro and Bill Selby in ...I think it was June of 2001.
He swapped Castro and Selby between third base and second base on a batter by batter basis based on where he thought the ball would be hit. He did it for a couple of innings.
I'm not clever enough to make that up. It happened. You could hear the horror in Marty's voice as he realized the reds manager was crazy. The fact that Boone kept his job for another two years after that says everything that can be said about how low this organization sank.
Starting Juan Castro against Randy Johnson because "he's right-handed."
Bringing Donnie Sadler in as a defensive replacement in left.
Sitting Dunn in Colorado.
Makes all the routine posts.
Last year Dunn and Griffey sat together in Colorado against a LH (Francis I believe).
I just read Mind Game, about the Red Sox WS season. How about every move Joe Torre did in the 2004 World Series. He looks like the worst manager in baseball (which I kind of thought he was anyway before that book). He is an expert at sitting on his hands.

I saw this game on TV, but it was a Cardinals/Braves game on 5/14/88 that went 18 innings. Whitey Herzog at one point put pitcher Jose DeLeon in the outfield and alternated him from RF to LF with OFer Tom Brunansky according to which side of the plate the batter was using. He also used pitcher John Tudor as a pinch hitter and the game finished with super sub Jose Oquendo pitching 4 innings, getting the loss in the 18th (he almost got the win!). The Cardinals used 23 players.
Davey Johnson bringing in both Jesse Orosco and Roger McDowell and having them shuttle between RF and the mound dependent on the batter.
I'm not a system player. I am a system.
I saw that game as well. That has to be my favorite non Reds game I've ever seen, just for the sheer absurdity of it all.I saw this game on TV, but it was a Cardinals/Braves game on 5/14/88 that went 18 innings. If that's the game I am thinking of that's the game where Eric Davis and Ray Knight got into it, and with several players being ejected, Johnson was really low on players. So instead of taking Orosco out of the game, he just shoved him in right and would alternate him and McDowell. When the ejections happened, he only had one position player left, and it was a catcher. So he brings in the new catcher, and has Gary Carter move to third to replace Knight.
