Ok now my Crazy Griffey trade proposal

Send KGJ along with Majik in exchange the Red's acquire (1B) Todd Helton and ss Clint Barnes. this deal is possible on the contingency KGJ waives his no trade clause. Denver get's a more perceived sex star as in name in KGJ and the Red's acquire the Rockie's fading star , Marque wise in Todd Helton.

    OK rip away

Helton is the proud owner of the worst contract in baseball. No thanks.

I pride myself on my foolish impossible trade proposals, but I bow to your greatness.

I love Helton, but it's way too much money to make him a trade target. The length of that contract was insane.

Reds point of view: Lots of money would have to change hands for it to work.

Rockies point of view:I don't think Denver fans really care about marquee name coming to Coors. They want the team to be exciting again. The place used to sell out in the mid '90's when they had a .500 team with a lot of firepower. I was there for a lot of those games. Stars will not turn things around. A playoff appearance, and a legit contender the following year will.

Things can be negotiated and then take into account that maybe Francis can be added to the deal , Trade Dunn for what ever the best offer on the table is and you have a whole lot of holes can be covered.

Helton has a clause that says he can opt out after 2007. Not saying that he would, but he can. If he came to Cincinnati and his numbers skyrocketed (very likely) and he hit 30HR with 125+RBI with a OBP of .440+ he may choose to leave for greener pastures. He would be only 34 after 2007. I could see the Yankees offering him something close to $15-17m to play 1B. It is a possibility to consider.

However, all that being said, I wouldn't do it anyway. It doesn't fit the Reds needs. A terrible offensive SS who doesn't defend well, an exorbitantly priced 1B, and you give up pitching.

Why would his numbers skyrocket in Cincinnati when he's coming from Denver?
We'll burn that bridge when we get to it.

It is a better hitters park (by far, now) and caters to lefties. Denver hasn't been the hitters park it has the reputation for for years (about 3 or 4 I think).

Coors is still the best offensive park in the game as it elevates every single area of offense. The best case scenario is shifting to GABP would be a push, most likely it would cause a decent drop in batting average and extra base hits.
