    What about Nomah?

Forgive me if this has been discussed here before but I don't remember it ever coming up. Would you be interested in the Reds pursuing the Nomar to play Short or second (with Felipe at the other) for next year? For Nomar it would seem to make sense for a one year deal to have new friendly confines to rebuild his rep before going at free agency again next fall. For the Reds, it would give them a probably affordable, veteran middle infielder who can hit and respectably field. Obviously not a pitcher but better than Machado.

I doubt he can stay healthy enough to hold down 2nd or SS.

Only for a minor league contract worth about $600,000.

not really ... he would be one and done and offense(with poor defense) is not what the Reds should be looking for.

Nomar is still generating interest from a lot of teams. For what he would cost on the open market, I don't think it would be smart of the Reds to show any interest.

Wouldn't come cheap enough for the impact he would likely have. He would bring some plublicity though.

I'll take Nomar at 2B for 500K with a 1MM bonus at 300 PA and 500K for each additional 100 PA. I'm guessing he gets 4MM guarenteed from somebody though.

So, you'd sign him to play 3rd?

When was nomar ever bad in the field? he's probably lost some range but i'd still imagine he is an above average SS

I'm sure he'd be great in the field I just don't think he'd be out there for more then 80 games.

I bet Marty Brennaman would sign Nomar to play third.

I seriously doubt Garciaparra will get serious interest as a shortstop or second baseman. His range was never great in his prime and he ain't in no prime no more.

Apparently the Padres are looking to play Nomah at 2B if they move Loretta.

    Re: What about Nomah?

Depending on how much $ he wants, I would take him to play 2nd. This way if you he stays healthy is a bonifide all-star, but if he goes down you have Freel right behind him to play. Add that to giving Bergolla another year in AAA, and it works out well.

It all depends on how much cash he wants though.
