Guardado, Schoeneweis, Hollandsworth and Franklin file for F.A.

In addition, Eddie Guardado, Scott Schoeneweis, Todd Hollandsworth and Ryan Franklin have officially filed for free agency. Mercker is the only Red eligible who has yet to file.

Of course, we all know who else filed for free agency today: Mr. Zitotastic

Bernie Williams filed too...I'm very curious to see what happens there.
There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.

    First Clayton and now Franklin.

See, the Reds have already improved at SS and on the mound.

    Retirement. Or Tampa Bay.
Some people play baseball. Baseball plays Jay Bruce.

Maybe he could mentor Shack as a LOOGY at a discount price.

It would drive Narron up a wall (or it may hasten his departure) - but I'd just like to see a bunch of kids in the bully and find a few with some steel marbles and let'em go after it. A little fire in the belly and naiveity could go a long way - and hey, what could it hurt?

Career 5.01 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. No thanks, although he's dominated lefties over the last three years to the tune of a .563 OPS against. He'll likely want too much money to be a LOOGY, though.

I don't disagree with this, however, it seems Mr. Narron and too many young players may be a mix for disaster.

I'd be surprised if the Reds can get compensation for anyone but Aurilia. IIRC, you've got to be top 40% to qualify under the new rules.

I'm thinking the same basic thing. To stick with the Reds he'd want more than the $2.75M he made last season. Players usually don't take pay cuts from their current employer. Plus, the Blue Jays dumped the guy when they still had a shot at making the playoffs. That ought to scream caveat emptor to folks.

Filing for free agency is like when guys are on waiver in August. Everyone (without a signed contract) does it, and it doesn't mean much.
