Joe Crede doesn't break through at 3B even though Chavez had a down year. That's got to be frustrating. Didn't realize Teixeira was that good with the leather.

Remember, in Gold Glove doesn't actually mean best fielder. It's mostly "most popular".

Dial has Crede 4th in his rankings. Jeter is 12th in the AL. Just for fun, he has Hatteberg tagged as the #1 NL First Baseman.

The Gold Glove announcement ranks up there with Mr. Blackwell's Worst Dressed list.

I love hearing somebody's resume when it includes these things: All-Star Game MVP, All-Star, or Gold Glove.

    Yawn.

That can't be right, A-Rod has 2, and Palmeiro has 3, and no one likes them. Maybe it means most famous.

    I'd go with "most showy".

I actually like to watch most of these guys in the field. Best? Meh, probably not, but they're all fun to watch...I don't understand how you can compare players in something not stats-based, they're all so different.

I didn't watch all ChiSox games, but the games I did Joe Crede was amazing. Chavez is a great fielder, but I don't see how anyone was better than Crede.
This is the time. The real Reds organization is back.

I agree, Crede is terrific. He'll win a Gold Glove soon enough, and he'll be in fine shape when he's a free agent too.

Hatteberg is my favorite first baseman in the whole wide world. You can almost see his thought process: plant, lunge, catch, hooray!!

I've always liked Eric Chavez, but honestly, nobody was better in the AL at third this year than Joe Crede. Oh well, maybe next year Joe.

Re: AL Gold Glove winners announced

At lunch the last several weeks, since it's been gorgeous outside, I've been grabbing a bite, and sitting in my car with the sunroof down & windows open listening to MLB radio while avoiding the grind.

Today, Kevin Kennedy tried to defend the giving of Gold Gloves to Rafeal Palmerio long after he had become a full time DH, and it was hella painful.

His argument, was that Palmerio was the 2nd best behind Don Mattingly for seemingly forever. And Mattingly always won the Gold Glove. So after he retired, he got a few gimmies as pay backs.

Dumbest argument I've ever possibly heard. And makes me think even worse about the whole Gold Glove Process.

Buster Olney was on XM a few weeks ago, talking about the GG award. Said that he's been in clubhouses, where the ballot was being filled out like so.

Manager - "So 3rd base - who did we see that was real good at 3rd base this year"
Coach - "Scott Rolen - he was real good"
Manager & Staff "Rolen - yeah he's a good choice"
    *Writes down Scott Rolen*

The interviewer thought Olney was joking - and he said he only wishes he was.

Stunning, if only we didn't already have that inkling about the award.

How does Gary Matthews Jr not win a gold glove? Didn't he have a spectacular year defensively?

Brandon Inge had a great year as well.
