    Arroyo/Harang

Just checking out Arroyo's page on Baseball-Reference. I just happened to notice that his #1 "Similar Pitchers" is, you guessed it, Aaron Harang. Of course, Harang's #1 comp is Arroyo as well. Other notables include Jake Westbrook at #3 for Arroyo, #8 for Harang, and Tomo Ohka at #10 for Arroyo.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Just a question. Is this a problem that our top two starters are so similar in style? Does this work to the advantage of the opponent to face a similar pitcher back to back nights?

Marginally, maybe. But if it's an advantage, those two seem to be handling the effect just fine. After Santana/Liriano, I'm not sure if there was a better 1/2 in baseball last year. Also, while their stat profiles may be similar, they have vastly different motions and 'stuff'.

The Reds have the perfect antidote to that problem. All Cincinnati has to do is put somebody such as Milton in the slot between Arroyo and Harang--breaks up the similarities.

These are not two like pitchers. Arroyo relies on his curveball and Harrang throws hard. They did have comparable stats in a lot af areas last year, but they went about it very differently. I think they compliment each other very well in the rotation.

Yeah, their stats may be similar, but their stuff isn't.

It's a different look for a hitter between those two.
