    Bob Geren new A's manager

    from rotoworld:

The Associated Press reports that Bob Geren will be Oakland's next manager.
Geren was the favorite right from the start and nothing changed during the interview process. A longtime friend of Billy Beane's, he'll be more willing to go along with the general manager's "suggestions" than an outside candidate might have been. Also, from the sound of things, several of the players will prefer to him the ousted Ken Macha. There hasn't been any word yet on how long of a contract he'll get.
My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!

Former Red. Technically. For four months in the off-season.

another ex major league catcher getting the nod...Dare I ask, will Eddie Taubansee, Joe Oliver, or Jeff Reed be a manager one day???? Lloyd Mclendon, former catcher for the reds, already got his shot with Pittsburg..

One of the winningest managers in AAA baseball was a guy named Phil Roof. Roof was a light-hitting catcher with several major league teams.

I wonder what Brad Gulden and Steve Christmas are doing these days.

Good news for Dann Bilardello and Dave Van Gorder, as they move up a slot on GMs' speed dial.

Wasn't Bob Geren the other anchor with Mary Hart on Entertainment Tonight?

Don't forget Bill Plummer. He was manager of the Mariners for a short time.

Not a single manager is a former pitcher...

Edit: Well, until now thanks to Bud Black.
