The Dodgers' GM didn't have a choice in that trade-off. The previous regime negotiated an "opt out" in Drew's deal, which he exercised.

Yeah, and word has it that the Dodgers were so upset that he bailed that they wouldn't renegotiate with him.

It almost seems like they just got so mad at him for opting out that they just wrote him off. Drew will get a lot more, but still.

I love this deal......not cause it has anything to do with Pierre. Just cause Drew's price just went up for the Red Sox. Is it me or is the offseason usually better than the second half of the regular season?

Didn't have to replace him with the offensive black hole known as Pierre.

That's true, and I'm sure they would have rather kept Drew. Obviously they had money burning HUGE holes in their pockets. Maybe they would like to share instead of spending it foolishly? Maybe share with the Reds....or better yet, share it with me!!!!

I guess the Dodgers are now going to start a land war in Asia

As someone that watches the Dodgers from time to time I am simply shaking my head in amazement. Apparently a monkey with a dartboard and a lot of money to spend actually can become a Major League General Manager.

I doubt the Reds are looking to trade Freel.

Doesn't help matters that big Jerr Narr was constantly insisting that Freel is a bench player or "not an everyday player."

Way to boost that trade value, Jerry.
