    1975 World Series DVD Set

Just thought I would post this for anyone interested in picking up the 1975 World Series DVD set. I have wanted to get it for a while but was waiting for a good price.

Found it today to Buy.com for $50, BUT they have $20 off $50 if you use Google Checkout. It also came with free shipping. So $30 delivered.

Nice holiday present for that reds fan, like me.
Nothing to see here. Please disperse.

My only wish is that they would have included the commercials from 1975.

I imagine those licensing fees weren't easy to get.
My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!

You do get some bits and bumpers of "watch our other shows" promotion- although it's hilarious how crude it all is compared to now (basically yellow characters on the screen). They talk a bit about some crazy new show called "Saturday Night". Wonder what happened to that one.

The other neat thing about these broadcasts is Marty Brennaman appearing as a color commentator when the games are in Cincinnati. Many on this board may very well enjoy the stark difference in his personality and style.

...and his voice. I have the CD's of the old LP's of the 75 & 76 BRM highlights - Marty sounds almost squeaky as compared to today.

Any mention in the set about the season ending injury of Jim Rice being the main reason the Reds won?

Re: 1975 World Series DVD Set

No, Marty wasn't bitter. He also *stopped talking* and let other people say things. Of course, he was only used occasionally. The main PBP guys (which, interestingly enough, changed constantly over the seven games) would throw to him for fifteen seconds about Ken Griffey's speed or the lineup's hitting approach, and he'd hit the mark every time.

However, I must go on record as saying I like his voice better now. It's much deeper with age. He also has a much better sense of dramatic pacing and timing (which was also the only thing I didn't much like about Steve Stewart).

Just let me be clear: he's only in the games at Riverfront. Some of the rest of the time you get Joe Garagiola and Tony Kubek (also Dick Stockton, the Boston radio guy at the time, and some others I don't remember), and Kubek is the worst AL homer because he'd broadcasted almost exclusively AL Games of the Week for so long. The AL homerism struck me as funny, considering the Red Sox were the prohibitive underdogs going in.

One thing that jumped out at me was the way that Marty was agreeing with the other guys that Armbrister SHOULD HAVE been called for interference. The network must have been telling them to say it.
