    Re: Black Friday

I woke up this morning realizing I needed two laundry baskets for my pending relocation.

I live directly behind a WalMart. Cyclone and mole44 can attest this fact. I've bought laundry baskets at this WalMart before, so apparently it escaped my realm of logic that WalMart might have some Black Friday festivities. I entered Sam's playhouse, and the madness ensued.

To get to where the laundry baskets are in this particular WalMart, you need to go past the electronics area/section. In the process of passing by the electronics, I watched two grown men, and by grown I mean 40s+, throw hands over what looked to be $1 DVDs. These two were seriously going at it! Security was called, and they still couldn't break up these two for maybe 3-4 mins. Then the local Johnny Law showed up, handcuffed both of them, and escorted them towards the front of the store. At this point, I resumed my laundry basket mission.

Upon finding said objective, I made my way to the front, paid for my bobbles, and then watched as both men were being put into police cruisers.

    Ah, Black Friday.

I remember last year when I was managing a Lids in Cherry Hill NJ and worked from 530 A to Midnight and we sold $24K worth of freaking hats and hat accessories. No stories to tell of that day, just a damn merry go round of customers all freakin day since we were running a BOGO on 5950s. I've never seen more fitted hats fly off the shelves then that day.

Good luck to all that made the commercial pilgrimage today. I hope you didn't end up in jail like the WalMart duo!

    Re: Black Friday

Even tho' I was awake at 5am I didn't get out of the house until 8am. Hit Kmart first and got a crock pot/lil dipper, two pillows, and assorted JoBoxer fleeces. Great I thought! Now to the real prize... the Kodak EasyShare digital camera with 10x optical zoom at Best Buy for $189. I went to the store on Fields Ertel and waited patiently while a salesperson helped another customer. When it came time to for me I showed him the ad and they were sold out. No prob... onto another Best Buy, this time at Bridgewater Falls. There I had to stay outside for a few minutes because there were too many people in the store (fire hazard). When I got to the cameras I went straight to the register and showed the salesperson the ad. He laughed and said that there was a line around the store even before they opened at 5am and when they did, the customers headed straight to the cameras. That camera sold out in about 15 minutes.

OK... Meijer had the same camera for $10 more and a free camera dock. Went to two stores and the answer was the same...sold out. : By this time I was questioning if I really needed a digital camera in the first place since I always use my sisters. But I relented and went back to the Best Buy at Bridgewater and purchased another Kodak EasyShare but with an extra pixel (7.1) for about 50 dollars more. By the time I purchased memory, rechargable batteries and a warranty I was out over $350. (and I started the day not wanting to spend more than $220).

Still didn't get all the shopping done. Our family draws names and I received a nephew's list. His is simple... white t-shirts, dog bones or a retractable leash for his dog. Then I have to shop for one sister to buy a gift for the other.

We'll see how things are tomorrow - I have a hair appointment then off I go.

Three words define my christmas shopping. Buy. Dot. Com.

I'm gonna try and break my record of 15 minutes total shopping time this year. Wish me luck!

I'd rather chew off my own fingers than race through a department store or big box mart to try and get whatever they're selling as a loss-leader.

I have to be up for work everyday at 6AM -- I'll be damned if I'm voluntarily leaving bed before noon on an off day.

I spent my day on the couch, nursing a bad back. I loathe going shopping on Thanksgiving weekend. I have yet to find a sale so significant it would draw me out of my man-cocoon, watching sports and enjoying leftovers over the weekend. I actually prefer to do the bulk of my shopping later in the season, when most shoppers have finished their feeding frenzy. Sure there may be fewer things on the shelves, but that just means less decision making for me. And you still get some of the good deals as stores try to squeeze out every last bit of shopper traffic they can get.

I opened the doors to a Supertarget this morning, arriving at 3a, guests started arriving at 4:30a for our opening at 6a. By 6a we had close to 600 waiting outside, absolute mayhem..........

It's at that point that I "accidentally drop" a jar full of 5,000 marbles at the front of the store.

We do all of our holiday shopping online. It's simple, quick, and no crowds.

Guilty as charged. Best Buy had a computer sale and I really need one. So I got in line a little before 5 and by the time I got in, which was about 6, they were sold out. Never again.

We left at 3:30 yesterday to go to the in-laws for Thanksgiving dinner. As we went by the Best Buy near our house, people had already started to camp out. That's more than 12 hours before the doors open. Unbelievable!

"As I reigned blows upon him I realized there had to be another way, and from out of that, a new Holliday was born: a festivis for the rest-of-us!"- Frank Costanza.

That said I was out shopping before six. My wife is the manager of a retail store, and she decided she wanted to get to her store at 3:30 so I told her I'd drive her since she only slept a few hours. Her store is right near Best Buy, so I dropped her off and went and stood in line. I got some decent items. Got one of the computers for $189, gonna give it to my brother who is in college. I think it's hillarious watching the people who are so serious about it. People actually standing in line complaining about all the people standing in line. I actually had a great time, I didn't really mind the crowds.

    Re: Black Friday

I started my internet shopping on Wednesday. My kids had their lists already made out. I spent about an hour, and went to Amazon, Walmart,Target, and Best Buy.

The only reason I didn't have it finished yesterday was because Walmart.com went down due to the volume of people going on there.

I should have mine finished up today.

But I still have to find a ****** Nintendo Wii for my son. That may take some time.
