ok, i guess i can't follow directions properly, because i still can't post a picture...

is the picture the only thing that can be on the page, or can it be a picture from something like a yahoo sports page? i tried the insert image thing and copied the website from yahoo, but it only posted the link, rather than the picture itself...

in case you didn't know, i'm completely computer unsavvy

I'll try to keep this simple for ya.

    1) Right-click on the picture on the Yahoo page, and select Properties.
    2) Highlight and Copy the entire URL Address in the Properties screen.
    3) Paste that entire URL address in a post. Put a [IMG] tag in front and a [/IMG] tag behind the address you've pasted into the post.

    Here's the result ...

As far as the CODE tags, I just simply use Notepad. Type/paste in whatever data it is into Notepad exactly how you wish to display it inside the CODE tags. Then just copy/paste everything from Notepad to the post, and throw a [ CODE ] tag before the data and a [ /CODE ] tag after the data (no spaces between the brackets and CODE or /CODE).

Here's an example ... the first is an image of what the data looks like in Notepad, and the second is what it looks like in CODE form in a post ...

    Code:

    Run Expectancy 1999-2002

                            Outs Situation
Base Situation 0 outs 1 out 2 outs

    Empty 0.555 0.297 0.117
    1st 0.953 0.573 0.251
    2nd 1.189 0.725 0.344
    3rd 1.482 0.983 0.387
    1st_2nd 1.573 0.971 0.466
    1st_3rd 1.904 1.243 0.538
    2nd_3rd 2.052 1.467 0.634
    Loaded 2.417 1.650 0.815
BTW, for hosting pictures, I usually just use ImageShack.

    Here's another one...

Instead of the entire weblink (http://www.cubsfansarejerks.com) sometimes I'll see people using an underlined blue font word as the link. Click on the word and you are taken to the link.

Often times it something like. "For the full story, click here". Except, of course, the word "here" would be linked to the appropriate webpage.

    How do you do that?

    1. Type out the text.
    2. Highlight the portion of the text you wish to use as a link.
    3. Click the "Insert Link" button, which gives you the pop-up to insert your URL.

So my link would be here....

Most cool! Thanks for the help.

That looks much cleaner than the big giant link.

Another question that is bugging me...

Creating your own custom avatar? How in the world do you do this? Many thanks to those who share the secret with a simpleton like me!

Some sites won't let you link to images on their site. When the board detects that you've linked to an image in a place that forbids linking to their images, it substitutes a link to the image. When this happens, rest assured that there is likely nothing that you've done wrong - it's just the way the site with the image is set up.

If you can't find the same image somewhere else that allows external linking, a workaround is to download the image from the place that doesn't allow linking and upload it to a free image host like http://imageshack.us. Once it's uploaded to imageshack, you can use the link they supply to show the image in your posts here.

If you're a member of ORG, you can add an avatar to your profile by selecting "User CP" above and clicking "Edit Avatar" on the next page.

At the bottom of the "Edit Avatar" page are controls for "Custom Avatar." You can either link to an avatar picture that's on some other site or you can upload one from your computer. The file can be no wider or taller than 100 pixels. If you have an image that you want to use and the site says it's too big, you can shrink it here first.

If you're asking how to make an avatar, that's kind of like asking how to tell what kind of problem a car is having when it makes a funny noise. It's a learned skill. You need to know how to use graphics software like Photoshop or Gimp.
