So I get the new issue of Stuff.....

So I get the new issue of Stuff magazine. For those not familiar with it its a mens magazine in the same vein as Maxim or FHM or whatever. Not porn, but still nothing useful in most cases.

Anyway, I'm thumbing through and one of the little side blurbs is about baseball cards for homeless people. I think, how disgusting to exploit these folks like that. Then I realize....its the homeless people of our very own Cincinnati.

If you flip through the online cards there you'll see the backdrop in most all of them is our beloved Great American Ball Park. In the card for Charlotte Wright you can even clearly make out Redzone poster boy Adam Dunn.

Can this be legal from the Reds POV?

Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
    Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
    Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13
    University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
    Cincinnati Bengals - None
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

The "about" section of the website says that this website is Cincinnati based and all the homeless people are from here.
This is the time. The real Reds organization is back.

I work dowtown and I don't recognize any of them. I venture out walking for blocks and, trust me, I see plenty. I feel very sorry for most of them. Same cast, same play.

WOW! That is incredible. What at first seems to be a big joke making fun of homeless people, turns out to be an incredibly unique way of allowing a group of people who have lost contact with our larger society to establish contact with people through their own words and thoughts. Unconventional, but it just might help someone.

    from their calendar:
    -----------------------------------------------
    february 2007
Release party for printed cards held in the Hall of Fame room at the Reds stadium with keynote speaker Tom Browning (2006 Reds Hall of Famer)
    A) complete, first editions will be available for purchase from project participants who will also be autographing cards
    B) the first person to collect all of the available autographs will receive free tickets to a Reds home game in 2007
    -----------------------------------------------

You have to get your cards autographed by the homeless people!...and acknowledge that they are people...and maybe speak to them. And maybe your heart will grow three sizes too! How cool.

Check out the web site of the creators of this oddity.

How ironic would it be if that game was against the Florida Marlins?
"...You just have a wider lens than one game."
--Former Reds GM Wayne Krivsky, on why he didn't fly Josh Hamilton to Colorado for one game.

"...its money well-spent. Don't screw around with your freedom."
--Roy Tucker, on why you need to lawyer up when you find yourself swimming with sharks.
