    Thank you UK

As a long time KY football fan ....I would just like to say thanks for a special season.Who knows, maybe some of the cats are big reds fans and members of Redszone.
Personally, I am not a bandwagon fan. I have been a fan from the days of Randy Jenkins to Tim Couch. That includes the Billy Ransdells and Billy Jack Haskins days.
I for one was hoping UK would go after Steve Spurrier or even Doug Williams but instead we got a "Rich Brooks".We seen Brooks make mistakes like bringing in Ron Hudson who turned a 500 yard passer(2 games) in Jared Lorenzen into a non drafted option QB
We also saw coach Brooks turn the offense over to Joker Phillips which was an excellent move. The players liked coach Brooks and pleaded for the fans to give him a chance.
This season we got to witness one of the more enjoyable seasons in recent history.Thank you coach Brooks and players for laying it on the field every game.
Thank you for taking roll call after the LSU debacle and closing out the season on a strong strong note.
This season we began a climb that we "must" continue.
Clemson looked bored even before the music city bowl and they acted as if we didnt belong on the field with them.
We and i am speaking of the University of Kentucky football team finished 8-5 and with a bowl win.
We had a couple of games we lost that we could have easily won which would have give us 10 wins.We also had a couple of those games that we won that we could have lost which would have give us 6 wins.
So in a range of 6-10 we split the difference and won 8.
Are we in same category as the Ohio State's and USC's of the world.
No No No ! You have to crawl before you walk.
Just continue to improve UK ! You are making football fun again and we thank you !
The players ? yes they are enjoying it too.
Andre Woodson...Rafeal Little....Kennan Burton all returning for another run.
Thanks again guys! Keep it going !!!

We droped Ole Miss and picked up the Razorbacks..away next season:thumbdown

Kentucky plays one of the toughest schedules in the country every year. This past season we were only one of three teams in America that played 3 BCS teams in the regular season. It is very difficult for a team like Kentucky to recruit in the SEC. I dare say only 6-10 players on Kentucky could play for Florida. Only 1 or 2 could even start for Florida...it is what it is.

It was a very good season for Kentucky, but to have 7 wins next season, we will have to beat either the Razorbacks on the road, Louisville, LSU, Florida, or Tennessee at home. I say 6-6 is more likely. Ohio State would not have gone undefeated this year if they had to play Louisville, Florida, and LSU on the road like Kentucky did this year. I'd say OSU would of been 2-1 against those three teams.

Kentucky's best chance of 7 wins will be to beat Louisville this year at home.
They will have a new coach, new offense, and a new QB, because I expect Brohm to go in the draft.

Kentucky Football, IMO, is a potential sleeping giant. Someone who has some foresight with potential recruiting and the ability to "sell" Kentucky football will be revered. And 9-2 wouldn't be that far away.

However, as long as Spurrier's at SC, Richt at UGA, and Fullmer at UT, it's going to be tough every year. Not to mention, at somepoint, Bobby Johnson's gonna wake up Vandy. Its bound to happen.

SEC East is potentially one of the toughest divisions in football.

Well while we're thanking college football teams I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Notre Dame for causing me to turn to eating and drinking to ease the pain. I had to stop watching the Sugar Bowl, I said "NO! You will not make me eat!!"

Here, here, from another UK football fan who was them through good years (the few) and miserable (the plenty). And good news has already been trickling in in the offseason - Rafael Little and Keenan Burton both have announced they're not entering the draft will be coming back to UK for their senior seasons. While Mike Archer is out as defensive coordinator (that in itself is good news to many) as he stepped down to take the same post at NC State, it's said that Virginia Tech's defensive coordinator, Bud Foster, is interested in making the lateral jump to become UK's new DC.... provided he has an inside track at the head coaching job when Brooks retires. Interesting to see how it turns out.

I always had a gut feeling Joker Phillips "maybe" is being groomed to take over from Rich some day.
Joker would bring that in-house incentive that guys like Bobby Petrino as well as the Nick Saban's of the world cant offer.
Not to say Joker would never want to leave but the chance of him staying for an extended period of time would be greater than a man from the"outside".

Course this is all predicated by UK continuing to win.

Mike Archer was too much of a "Bend but dont break" type of guy." We will let you drive up and down the field but stop you somehow before you score seemed to be his mentality.
In his defense(no punn intended)....we seemed to rise to the occasion vs the likes of georgia , fla, tennessee, and clemson.
Against the louisiana monroe's and mississippi state's of the schedule was a different story.
I would like to see a more aggressive defense though.

Yup. Basically, they're cut from a very similar cloth to the Bengals of the last couple years. Statistically, a terrible defense that gives up a tons of yards but has games here and there where they don't give up many points. Lots of yards, but balance it out a little with takeaways.

    Re: Thank you UK

Good comparison of their defense to the Bengals' of 2005. I think it was the Ole Miss game where they gave up bunches of yards, but had 6 turnovers to ensure the victory.

There is no "potential" about the SEC East being one of the toughest divisions in college football - it is so virtually every year, sometimes the actual toughest (the Big 12 South, with Texas & Oklahoma is up there as well.)

This was a fine year for the Cats, with nice wins over Georgia and Clemson. It was the first time I've seen them win 8 games in a year and a bowl game (I don't remember the 84 season, as I was only 11 at the time).

I hope they somehow can continue this success next year.

So nevermind on that whole Bud Foster to UK thing. Seems they're ready to announce that defensive backs coach Steve Brown is getting promoted to DC.

That's the Big 10, not the SEC.

For Vandy I think making a bowl game would be enough.

Heck, beating Tennessee every 22 years is enough for some.
