Diamondbacks agree to terms with LHP Davis

PHOENIX (TICKER) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks avoided arbitration with Doug Davis on Thursday, agreeing to terms with the lefthander on a three-year contract.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Davis, 31, was acquired along with lefthander Dana Eveland and outfielder Dave Krynzel on November 25 from the Milwaukee Brewers for righthanders Greg Aquino and Claudio Vargas and catcher Johnny Estrada.
The Diamondbacks' rotation will feature a decidedly different look with the additions of Davis and fellow southpaw Randy Johnson, who was acquired in a trade with the New York Yankees on January 9.
Davis is 62-63 with a 4.35 ERA in parts of eight major league seasons. Last year, he went 11-11 with a 4.91 ERA in 34 starts with Milwaukee.
The lefthander also will provide durability. Davis has pitched at least 200 innings in each of the past three seasons and has made 103 starts in that span, second only to teammate Livan Hernandez.
"We believe that trading for Doug and signing him to a three-year contract improves and stabilizes our rotation," Arizona general manager Josh Byrnes said. "It is challenging to acquire and retain quality starting pitching, and this is an important step for us to build a playoff-caliber rotation."
