We must have gotten someone good cause Felipe was an All Star.

I have seen those links you made and I agree with you that it would most likely be a wash. However, I believe Phillips/Lopez have the potential for more upside. Lopez could very well be an average second baseman, and he could hit more like he did in 2005. Personally, I think Lopez it miscast as a lead-off hitter and would be best-suited as a #2 or even a #3 hitter. He has the ability to drive the ball and I don't think that's his mindset when he's batting first.

That being said, Lopez at 2B and Phillips at SS could've been a defensive disaster. We'll never know of course, but I still wish we'd have the opportunity to find out for virtually the same price as Gonzo/Phillips.

Well, before 2005 he wasn't an everyday player. 2005 was a breakout season for him, obviously. So, I would compare 2005 vs. 2006. I don't know if he's closer to the player he was in 2005 or the one in 2006....he'll probably fall somewhere in between. In my opinion, I do believe he could/would perform closer to his 2005 levels of production if he wasn't thought of as a leadoff hitter, which he is now apparantly. I would've loved to see him bat 3rd behind Dunn with EE and JR. behind him. In that situation, with good hitters around him, I think he'd perform closer to his 2005 levels of productions rather than 2006.

Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I though Lopez wasn't an everyday player because he was too error-prone. I liked Felipe, but I just don't see how you can get $5 million when you commit 27 errors. 2005 was a great year for him and he showed promise at the plate, that's for sure. However, 2006 seemed to see him going back to his career averages.

I think he's going to be a lousy second baseman too. He just doesn't move to his right very well at all.
