    Armas Jr.

Why would he go to Pirates over Reds if both are Low market?

    Re: Armas Jr.

I got to thinking last night how our ballpark might have an effect on our ability to make moves in the free agent market. How much do you guys think that the stigma of GABP being a homerun park turns away quality starting pitchers? Do elite starting pitchers value their statistics enough that they wouldn’t consider signing with us?

Would a Bronson Arroyo or Aaron Harang have come to Cincinnati had we not traded for them? In this market where quality starters are beginning to cost a small fortune, is our ballpark forcing us to drive up the asking price even more?

Not that Armas is an elite pitcher by any means, but I just wonder in general how much of an effect it has.

I'd wager with Wilson, Castillo, LaRoche, and Sanchez behind a pitcher on the IF vs what we have, a pitcher would choose the Bucs over the Reds, all things considered. Maybe our infield isn't drastically behind that one anymore, but it takes a long time to overcome reputation.

Couple that with the 'up and coming' view everyone has of their rotation [Snell, Duke, Maholm] and thats just one more thing in their favor.

I've never read anything that the Reds are pursuing him (although if he could be signed to a cheap incentive laden deal, I would go for it)

I didn't see any signs of him coming here either but I think he is as good as Milton or Loshe.

I dont think it matters when it comes to top end pitchers, becuase I doubt the Reds are going to go after any of them... its not cost effective in our market.
