Yankees To Honor Lidle With Armband

New York, NY -- (Sports Network) - The New York Yankees announced on Thursday that they will honor the memory of pitcher Cory Lidle by wearing a black band on the left sleeve of their home and road uniforms throughout the 2007 season.

Lidle was killed October 11 after a small plane he was in crashed into a New York City high-rise apartment building. He was 34 years old.

The Yankees acquired Lidle from the Philadelphia Phillies just before the trading deadline last July and he posted a record of 4-3 with a 5.16 earned run average in 10 games, including nine starts, with New York.

Lidle had a career mark of 82-72 with a 4.57 ERA in nine big league seasons with the New York Mets, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Oakland Athletics, Toronto Blue Jays, Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia and the Yankees.

Great move....Seems something like this should be automatic for a team that looses a player. But for the Reds it wasnt. I understand Darnell Stenson was only a minor league player but its still the Cincinnati Reds Franchise. I was glad to see what they did on Opening Day and naming an award after him that year but something as minuscule as an armband on a uniform says a lot. Maybe its just me i dont know. It says a lot that a franchise like the yankees to alter their uniforms when by many people they are considered sacred. Glad to see the Yankees do this. As much as many of us cant stand that team they are one of the classiest teams.
