Will be interesting to see how Reds.com fans and RedsZone.com fans differ in opinion.

I'd love to see Coffey get another shot. Go with the younger guys first to see what you have.

Right now I think Coffey gives the Reds more value as the 8th inning guy. I'm not crazy about Weathers but I think he's more mentally prepared to handle the role than the other candidates at this time. Long term I'd love to see Bray groomed for the role.

Bray needs to prove he can get major league hitters out in the 7th inning before the Reds start giving him the ball in the 9th.

Given what we know now (i.e. in the absence of any ST knowledge) I think you have to go with Weathers, distasteful though it may be.

Yeah I thought I would give him the benefit of the doubt.
There are 10 types of people in this world. Those that understand binary and those that don't.

They wheeled a 3x4 steel safe into the clubhouse Sunday morning to store the players' valuables. It took four guys to lift it off a dolly and onto a table.

Said pitcher Kent Mercker: "What's that, Junior Griffey's wallet?"

I was torn between your bro, and Bray. I think your bro could be a perfect set up man for Bray, or vice versa.

I voted Bray, and have Coffey set him up.

I'd like to see Coffey win the job, just because I think it works best to have a closer who's a hard thrower. Coffey's got the most velocity of the guys on that list.

Maybe he won't get the job, just because a fireballer is needed to pitch between all of the soft-tossers in the pen?

Re: If the Reds settle on one closer to open the season, who should it be?

I voted Coffey because he's easily the best pitcher in the pen. I really don't think its realistic though. Without Coffey earlier in the game, its doubtful that many leads will survive until the 9th to even get the save. That would of course make Coffey's workload pretty sporadic and probably limit his effectiveness.

Kind of a catch 22 here. Coffey should get the chance to advance his career based on his relative effectiveness (closers make a lot more money), but without him setting-up he or whoever the closer ends up being, would likely be pretty bad in the role.

Unfortunately Coffey will need to pitch earlier in the game to consistently get the leads to the 9th. Whoever the hot hand of the day is should get the save chances. Being good will cost Todd some money I'm afraid.
