    Hubert Sumlin RIP

First time I heard a Howlin’ Wolf record I was taken aback by the uniqueness and distinctivness of his guitar player. Later found out that was a fellow named Hubert Sumlin and he was a good one. By all accounts, a class act too. A lot of music we grew up with actually came from him and the Wolf:

    Smokestack Lightning
    Red Rooster
    Back Door Man
    Spoonful
    To name just a few.

Here the obit from the Times:

Crossroads 2010 .--5 tema Killing Floor-Robert Cray- Jimmie Vaughan & Hubert Sumlin - YouTube

Was lucky enough to see Sumlin play at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival in Chicago in 2010. He was struggling health wise - in the video you can see him actually performing while on an oxygen tank.

I remember hearing Sumlin tell the story about the time the Wolf decided to let this tall skinny left handed guitar player audition for his band. Sumlin said after hearing the kid play a few notes he was ready to start looking for a new job. That kid was Hendrix. Wolf decided Jimi was still too wet behind the ears.

    Here's Jimi interpreting Wolf/Sumlin:

Is it just wishful thinking or do I see a little Hendrix in Adonis Chapman?
