    Reds.com Depth Chart

I was checking out the depth chart on Reds.com, that was updated today, and saw this for CF.
    Ken Griffey Jr
    Bubba Crosby
    Chris Denorfia
Ryan Freel (note that Freel is slated to start in RF which is probably why he is here)

Seriously, do the Reds think more highly of Bubba Crosby and his lifetime .255 On Base Percentage (yes, .255 on base percentage) than Chris Denorfia?

In Right Field the chart goes like this
    Ryan Freel
    Jeff Conine
    Bubba Crosby
    Chris Denorfia
    Norris Hopper
    Josh Hamilton

Seriously.... I just dont get it and its starting to make my head hurt before any of the games are even played.

Hey, wait a minute. Bubba Crosby played for the Yankees, a team that consistently won. He has a lot to add to this team. Moreso than Chris Denorfia, who has little MLB experience.

Bubba Crosby is the prototype scrappy veteran.

That's just somebody at mlb.com's POV. Bubba Crosby is AAA filler (even with this crappy bench)

Right, the teams don't give them a depth chart, they just guess at it.

All this talk about Conine as the fourth outfielder. I thought Conine was brought in primarily as a righty platoon at first base.

No, that'll be Chad Moeller's role.

The mlb.com depth charts are always funky, I wouldn't put much stock in them.

Moeller's role better be working with the young pitchers ... in Louisville!

I can't promise you that it's wrong, just that the mere fact of it being on reds.com as opposed to espn.com or any other site, doesn't mean it's necessarily accurate or official in some way. Those mlb.com team sites can be just as bad with those kinds of things as anyone else.

    Re: Reds.com Depth Chart

    LF-Dunn/Denorfia/Hamilton/Freel/Conine
    CF-Denorfia/Freel/Hamilton
    RF-Griffey/Hamilton/Denorfia/Freel/Conine
    3B-Encarnacion/Castro/Freel
    SS-Gonzalez/Castro
    2B-Phillips/Castro/Freel
    1B-Hatteberg/Conine
    C-Ross/Valentin

That right there is 13 players, leaving 12 open for pitchers. If we would really go 11 pitchers like they have hinted, I would like Keppinger or Bellhorn as an extra IF, as the only extra we have now is Castro and Freel if he isn't in the OF.

I suspect you're right. Although I'm not convinced it's all that far from being reality.
