    Tony Pena back to KC?

Just seams unreal now Royals acquired shortstop Tony Pena Jr. from the Braves RHP Erik Cordier.

Just how many times is Royals GM Dayton Moore going to be able to get away with giving up young pitching for mediocre hitters? Actually, describing Pena as a mediocre hitter is too kind. Pena has a career .253/.285/.335 line in 2,308 minor league at-bats. He did take a step forward last year, batting .282/.312/.359 in 298 at-bats as a 25-year-old in Triple-A, but with no power or patience, that's the top level of his ability. He is a fine defender, but so is Andres Blanco. If the Royals really think Pena is better, then why have they been blowing the 40-man roster spot on Blanco for years? As much as the Royals do need to replace Angel Berroa, this still leaves them with the worst shortstop situation in baseball.

we get Tony Pena back here least he is alot younger,

I've been pretty down on Dayton Moore but Baseball Prospectus was pretty favorable in their commentary about him in this years book. They specifically liked what he brought on the player development side and mentioned that the Royals added another Minor league team this year. (IIRC, they said that now the Royals and Yankees are the only teams with 7 minor league teams)

I hope they can turn it around. They were such a great franchise for so long it's hard to comprehend where they've been since David Glass took over.

    Really smart pickup IMO.

Considering their options at SS are just awful, Pena could turn into the Brandon Phillips of 2007.

Mediocre arms in Low A are a dime a dozen.

It does seem like a million years ago when George Brett was having pine tar freak outs and they were a respectable franchise doesn't it?
