Perhaps not my favorite, but a player that I seemed to get in every pack I opened during my younger days. I am sure we all had a Manny Sanguillen type that we didn't want, but always seemed to get 15 of them during that season.
I used to laugh at the "paint job" cards too. The ones where players were traded and Topps did not have a pic with their new hat; therefore; they took the liberty of painting the new hat on. The technology then was nowhere near believable and the "paint job" looked bad.
This one - but without the airbrushed black over the end of the bat.
My father and I found two of those that year - still have them stored away - I pull mine out whenever I need a good laugh. Someone really punked Ripken that day.
From what I gather based on conversations on XM Radio, he may have "punked" himself on that one. Apparently players sometimes write crazy things on the knobs of their bats to make them easily recognizable in the bat rack.Originally Posted by jmcclain19

That's exactly what Cal said when he was at OSU earlier this year and someone asked him about it. They said, "Cal, did Billy know what was written on his bat handle?"
Cal said, "Of course he knew, that's how he remembered which one was his in the bat rack!"

Johnson was one of my favorites back in the day. I had a couple of those cards.
Look at how the vest is cut in that picture. That's what the Reds should have been doing the last few years. The vests you see today look to me like they just left off the sleeves.
