    No...actually I am the walrus.

    I am the eggman...goo goo g'joob...

Harang, a naughty boy who let his face grow long, is removed from the game.

So, Coffey, sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come, is summoned from the pen.

He fires a fastball to Lee who scorches a one hopper to the left side of the infield. I'm cryin'...Soriano and Izturis run like pigs from a gun, but Gonzalez makes a backhanded stab and fires to third...to second...to first, and like elementary penguins singing Hari Krishna, they turn a triple play.

Coffey makes one pitch and gets three outs.

To the top of the eighth.

Phillips singles start the inning. What would you do next?

(Note: I was hoping this thread would promote our second guessing skills.)

I try to get Phillips a chance to steal 2nd and bunt him to 3rd. Coffey hits for himself unless the Reds acquire a better pitcher than any of the other choices to replace him.

I agree. Actually, no one mentioned it, but I would have pulled a double switch, putting Valentin in the number nine spot as the catcher and putting Coffey in the number six hole replacing Ross. That would allow Coffey to pitch more than one inning. Some might not want to do this with the catcher, but I've never bought into that fear. Also, being on the road, I'd pinch hit Josh Hamilton for Gonzalez.

It is the bottom of the seventh. Harang has struggled a bit and has thrown 110 pitches and has just walked both Soriano and Izturis to start the inning. Harang is scheduled to bat third in the Reds' half of the eighth. What would you do? Reliever? Double switch? Stay with Harang?
110 pitches by the bottom of the seventh? What would I do? I would wonder when Dusty Baker became the Reds manager.

    IP-7 P-112
    IP-7.2 P-114

If he's going to throw 110 pitches in the first game of the season, Narron and Dick Pole should be fired immediately. And if you think that's OK, maybe you are Dusty Baker. No need to get your panties in a bunch.

Who said this was the first game of the season??? This was simply a hypothetical situation.

I'd get a delay of game penalty for the amount of time it would take me to analyze everything and come to a decision.
