Schoeneweis, Franklin, and Hollandsworth were waiver wire deals.
Jocketty picked up Preston Wilson and Jose Vizcaino in August last year as well.
My point is he didn't necessarily have to last season. So the fact that he got Weaver and Belliard isn't relevant. He didn't have to get anyone spectacular.
Look at all the quotes from 2006 about how Bob and Wayne were going to add payroll at the deadline and that amounted to basically Cormier and Lohse.
Fair enough, but do you honestly believe that at the deadline last year you thought (or even Jocketty thought) that the Cardinals were good enough to win it all? In the end they did, and they get all the credit in the world for doing it, but I'm not so sure it was believed they were good enough at the deadline.
