Belliard was awful for the Cardinals. He was Royce Claytonesque.
Weaver was acquired on July 5th via trade.

Yeah, that's not really a deadline deal.

So he went out and got Ronnie Belliard. Woo-hoo

Well, if that's the criteria, the only deadline deals Wayne made were for Lohse and Cormier. Guardado and The Trade happened in early July.

Yes I know. Was Schoenweis (sp?) a deadline deal, or was that a waiver wire move after the deadline?

Anyways, my point was Jocketty didn't do anything at the deadline last year.

Again, he won the WS. If he went out and got Ryan Howard, Vlad and Johan, they couldn't have been any more successful.

Weaver pitched prety well in the postseason. I think he was a good pickup.

Schoeneweis, Franklin, and Hollandsworth were waiver wire deals.

Jocketty picked up Preston Wilson and Jose Vizcaino in August last year as well.

Again, that's not the point. Your original point was that Jocketty would go out and spend money at the deadline, and Krivsky would tell us how we didn't have the budget, blah, blah, blah.

The fact is, that simply isn't true,

My point is he didn't necessarily have to last season. So the fact that he got Weaver and Belliard isn't relevant. He didn't have to get anyone spectacular.

Look at all the quotes from 2006 about how Bob and Wayne were going to add payroll at the deadline and that amounted to basically Cormier and Lohse.

Fair enough, but do you honestly believe that at the deadline last year you thought (or even Jocketty thought) that the Cardinals were good enough to win it all? In the end they did, and they get all the credit in the world for doing it, but I'm not so sure it was believed they were good enough at the deadline.

No idea...they made some moves and got a ring. That's all I'm judging on.
