    Dodgers, Brewers swap ex-Reds

Dodgers get Clark from Brewers for Dessens
PHOENIX (AP) The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired outfielder Brady Clark and cash from the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday for pitcher Elmer Dessens.
The 33-year-old Clark, a right-handed hitter, has a .278 career batting average and .986 fielding percentage over seven seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets and the Brewers.
He hit .263 last year with four home runs and 29 RBIs in 138 games, down from a .306 average in 2005, when he had 183 hits.
Dessens, a 36-year-old right-hander, has a 46-59 record and 4.41 ERA in 10 seasons with Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Arizona, Los Angeles and Kansas City.

    Great move for the Dodgers.

Not sure why the Brew Crew would want anything to do with Elmer Dessens.

    But still, it's Elmer Dessens....

Let's give them Eric Milton for absolutely nothing.

It's the exact opposite of the Willie Davis for Mike Marshall trade.

Hopefully the Brewers don't make out like the Dodgers did back then.

Brewers had to deal an outfielder, what with Clark, Geoff Jenkins, Bill Hall, Corey "Never Surrender" Hart, Kevin Mench, and Gabe Gross all making cases.

Hall is being moved to the OF because of JJ Hardy, Jenkins' fat contract is untradeable, and Mench was just picked up in the Carlos Lee deal. Hart and Gross are still establishing themselves, and likely have their best years in front of them.

So Clark was the odd man out. He's 34 in a few weeks and coming off a down year... I wonder if his power dip last year had anything to do with the substance crackdown? He's still a useful OF to have around, but I can understand why it was Brady that Milwaukee chose to deal.

As for Dessens... well, he's a league-average middle reliever who could start if he had to. He's never been great, but he has a career ERA+ of 102 and hasn't been below a 92 since the Reds picked him off the scrap heap way back in 2000. Amazing that this guy used to be our #1 starter. Curse that Jim Bowden (but at least he got good value for Dessens in Felipe Lopez).

Elmer's a useful swingman. Clark's a useful bench player. I liked both guys when they were with the Reds and it's nice to see them still in the game.
