    3-28: Dayton loses 9-2

Dragons Spring Training Report - Wednesday
    03/28/2007 5:28 PM

For the first time this spring (at least in my time at Spring Training), the Dayton Dragons looked flat. Dayton pitchers had a difficult time throwing strikes and the bats never quite got going as the Dragons dropped a 9-2 decision to the Hickory Crawdads, the South Atlantic League affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates in Bradenton, Florida on Wednesday afternoon.

Outfielder Mike Jones and third baseman Juan Francisco each drove home a run, Jones with a single and Francisco with a double as the two run third was the extent of the scoring for the Dragons. Crawdads pitching held Dayton to just five hits on the afternoon, four singles and the Francisco double.

Josh Ravin got the start for the Dragons and surrendered three runs, all earned, in his 2.1 innings of work. Lee Taber had the best pitching line of the five Dayton pitchers on the day allowing one hit and no runs in his 2.0 innings. Brandon Rice also was touched for three runs in his 2.0 innings. Both Nick Wandless and 2006 Dragon Jose Rojas pitched an inning to close out the afternoon. Wandless allowed one earned run and Rojas two runs, both of which were unearned due to a pair of Dragons errors.

The Dragons travel to the south side of Sarasota in Thursday afternoon to take on the Delmarva Shorebirds, the South Atlantic League affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.

See you at Fifth Third Field this season!

Also, for those who didn't go to the dragons site for the article, their is a picture on there and Petr Cech is catching for the Dragons. If you dont remember, he is the 19 year old Czech Republic catcher signed last year. Glad to see he was able to make it into the States to play this year.
