    2007 Hacking Mass

Just entered my team and was curious what everyone thought. Hopefully this team will be the suck. Unfortunantly, it has a couple of Reds on it. So, what do you think?

    Code:
    Catcher Brad Ausmus
    First Base Jeff Conine
    Second Base Alfredo Amezaga
    Third Base Pedro Feliz
    Shortstop Alex Gonzalez
    Left Field Scott Podsednik
    Center Field Darin Erstad
    Right Field Jose Guillen
    Pitcher 1 Steve Trachsel
    Pitcher 2 Wandy Rodriguez
"...You just have a wider lens than one game."
--Former Reds GM Wayne Krivsky, on why he didn't fly Josh Hamilton to Colorado for one game.

"...its money well-spent. Don't screw around with your freedom."
--Roy Tucker, on why you need to lawyer up when you find yourself swimming with sharks.

The only one on that team that could perform even above average would be Pedro Feliz and the Giants have him starting the season batting 7th behind Ben Molina. You're gold.

For those that aren't familiar with Hacking Mass, can you explain how rosters are created (ie, how you draft players), what the goals are, what the rules are, where you "create a team", etc?

Simply pick the players who you think will be the stiffest at each position. A team's aggregate stiffness is measured by summing the ESPN (Exuded Stiff Points, Net) of all of the players on your team. For hitters, ESPN is 0.800, minus his OBP, minus his SLG, and multiplied by plate appearances - i.e., (.8-OPS)*PA. For pitchers, the formula is the pitcher's ERA, minus 4.5, times his innings pitched, divided by three, or (ERA-4.5)*IP/3. This results in similar Stiffness scores for the firmest hitters and pitchers.

Is there a site you can go to enter your chosen players, or register your team? Also, you can pick any players you want, in all of baseball?

I see Podsednik is a Hacking Mass favorite again this year.

Yeah, it's a Baseball Prospectus deal. Sign up for a basic subscription which is free and choose from the list of players they give you. They will have their ESPN for last year by them which is the stat they created to show how much that player sucks. The higher the number, the more that player sucks.
