    A few Pirates tidbits

    From this morning's Post-Gazette.

    • Freddy Sanchez will come off the DL tomorrow & might join the team in Cinci.
    • Griffey & Dunn are a combined 4 for 29 with zero HRs against tonight's starter (Maholm).
    • If Sanchez does play, he killed Reds pitching last year...going 26 for 59 and a .441 average.

    Re: A few Pirates tidbits

I've been getting **** all week up here about this series. Yesterday my manager asked me, "So, Justin....the Reds and Pirates play this weekend. Who are you going to root for?"

So, I paused for a few seconds...looked at him...and said, "the correct answer to that question would be........

    ....... THE REDS! "

Haha, he laughed and teased me a bit more. Come on Reds! You have to win this series or I won't hear the end of it!

Didn't we hit Maholm pretty good last year?
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

    From MLB.com's game preview:

    Pitching matchup
CIN: RHP Matt Belisle (2-0, 3.60 ERA in 2006)
Belisle is 3-1 with a 4.43 ERA in 13 games, including one start, lifetime against Pittsburgh.

PIT: LHP Paul Maholm (8-10, 4.76 ERA in 2006)
The lefty was 1-1 with a 6.29 ERA in four starts against Cincinnati last season.

    Player to watch
Catcher David Ross was 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs last season against Maholm.
